Discovery of Southern Yellow-Cheeked Gibbon Population in Central Vietnam

Recently, experts from the CTNC center have made a groundbreaking discovery—a population of Southern Yellow-Cheeked Gibbons (Nomascus gabriellae) in a province in Central Vietnam. This marks the identification of a previously unknown population situated beyond the recognized distribution range of the species.

CTNC has promptly initiated preliminary survey programs and is committed to supporting entities in ensuring the rigorous protection of this newfound gibbon population. Well-structured conservation initiatives will be implemented, encompassing awareness campaigns, the application of SMART technology in species monitoring patrols, and comprehensive research efforts. Presently, conservation activities in the newly discovered area face instability due to a shortage of manpower, and specific locations are not being disclosed at this time.
