Leading Expert on Vietnamese Freshwater Fish
Hoang Anh Tuan is a leading expert on freshwater fish, dedicating his career to researching and conserving Vietnam’s rich aquatic biodiversity. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from the University of Forestry and a Master’s in Biology from the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources (VAST), with his thesis focusing on fish populations and the conservation of aquatic resources in Quang Ngai Province.
Career & Leadership
Since 2009, Tuan has held key roles at various research and conservation organizations. Early in his career, he managed the fish collection at the Vietnam National Museum of Nature and worked at the Southern Institute of Ecology. In 2023, Tuan was appointed Deputy Director of CTNC, where he oversaw freshwater fish research, coordinated field activities, and led conservation projects. Under his leadership, CTNC launched several important initiatives, including:
- Biodiversity conservation in Vinh Cuu and Pu Hoat Nature Reserves.
- Research on aquatic fauna in limestone caves.
- Collaborative research on fish taxonomy and diversity.
International Collaboration & Funding
Tuan’s work has received support from numerous prestigious organizations, including the Nagao Fund, the NAFOSTED Foundation, and the Ministry of Science and Technology. He has collaborated with leading global researchers and institutions, including the Kyoto University Museum, South China Normal University, and the Aqua International Journal of Ichthyology, to advance scientific understanding of Vietnam’s freshwater ecosystems.
