Head of Conservation Research Department at CTNC
MSc. Hoang Van Minh is a seasoned conservation expert with extensive expertise in biodiversity monitoring, the application of GIS, SMART, and camera trapping technologies, and community development. Since March 2025, he has served as the Head of the Conservation Research Department at CTNC, where he is responsible for planning and implementing research activities on natural resources, biodiversity, and wildlife conservation.

At CTNC, MSc. Hoang Van Minh leads the Center’s research activities, coordinates field surveys, and continues to leverage his strengths in training and capacity building for partners. His combination of practical experience, scientific knowledge, and management skills is playing a crucial role in enhancing the effectiveness of forest monitoring, wildlife protection, and advancing conservation efforts in Vietnam.
Education & Career Path
With a Master’s degree in Forestry from the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University, and an Engineer’s degree from the Vietnam National University of Forestry, Mr. Minh has a solid academic foundation. Before joining CTNC, he gained years of experience working for prestigious international organizations such as Fauna & Flora International (FFI) and WWF-Vietnam. He also held several key positions at Bach Ma National Park, including Head of a Ranger Station and Deputy Head of the Science and International Cooperation Department.
Training & Capacity Building Expertise
Training is one of Mr. Minh’s outstanding strengths. He has personally conducted numerous training courses on SMART (basic and advanced), GIS, and camera trapping for forest rangers and technical staff at a series of National Parks, Nature Reserves, and Forest Protection Departments across Vietnam, including key provinces such as Quang Nam, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Tri, Lam Dong, Ha Tinh, and Quang Binh. He has also trained staff from various NGO partners and specialized conservation units.
In-depth Research Experience
Mr. Minh has extensive experience in surveying and conserving endangered species, including:
- Surveying populations of the Red-shanked Douc Langur (Pygathrix nemaeus) and the Annamite Crested Gibbon (Nomascus annamensis) in Bach Ma National Park.
- Conducting biodiversity surveys using camera trapping systems in Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park.
- Developing data models on SMART and Mergin Maps to monitor the Cao-Vit Gibbon (Nomascus nasutus) population in Cao Bang.
