CTNC organized a seminar to share experiences in applying technology in natural resource management and biodiversity conservation

Connecting Conservation Organizations to Promote Technology Application in Biodiversity Protection Practice

On February 9, 2026, at the office of the Center for Nature Conservation and Technology (CTNC), a workshop titled “Sharing Experiences in Technology Application for Natural Resource Management and Biodiversity Conservation” was successfully held with the participation of representatives from various conservation organizations, management agencies, and technical experts. The event took place in a hybrid format, attracting nearly 30 online delegates alongside guest speakers attending in person in Hanoi.

The workshop was organized to create a forum for organizations to connect, exchange experiences, learn from one another, and seek technological solutions suitable for practical conditions in Vietnam. Through professional sharing and open discussions, stakeholders aimed for the common goal of promoting the effective application of technology in natural resource management, thereby contributing to the enhanced protection of biodiversity and wildlife species.

Overview of the workshop at the CTNC office

Participants included representatives from FFI Vietnam, Save Vietnam’s Wildlife, and PanNature, along with many officers directly implementing conservation activities at nature reserves and national parks across the country. The participation of these organizations brought multi-dimensional perspectives on technology application in different field contexts, from patrol management and biodiversity monitoring to data analysis for conservation policy planning.

Opening the program, the Center for Nature Conservation and Technology (CTNC) shared experiences in implementing technological tools for patrol management and conservation monitoring, particularly the SMART Connect system and the new features of the SMART 8 version. The presentation focused on standardizing field data collection processes, enhancing data synchronization capabilities across management levels, and supporting information analysis to serve decision-making in conservation work.

Following the program, a representative from Save Vietnam’s Wildlife shared practical experiences in using the SMART tool to support management at Pu Mat National Park. The use of this system helps track patrol effectiveness, record and process violation information, and analyze data to identify key areas requiring increased monitoring. These shared experiences demonstrate that technology is becoming an essential tool to optimize resources and improve management efficiency in the field.

A representative from FFI Vietnam continued by presenting lessons learned in using SMART to patrol, monitor, and investigate the population of the Cao Vit Gibbon, one of the critically endangered primate species in Vietnam. Designing patrol plans tailored to the species’ distribution area, combined with systematic data collection and analysis, has played a crucial role in assessing population trends and building long-term conservation measures based on scientific evidence.

Mr. Phung Ngoc Khanh – Director of CTNC

“This is a forum for organizations to connect, exchange experiences, learn, and seek appropriate technological solutions, aiming for the common goal of effective practical application to improve natural resource management and biodiversity protection, especially for wildlife.”

During the discussion session, participating organizations reached a consensus that strengthening connections, sharing data, and exchanging experiences are key factors in improving the efficiency of technology application in conservation. Delegates also discussed the need to build interconnected data platforms, standardize information collection and management processes, and enhance the capacity of conservation staff at the local level.

The workshop concluded in a positive atmosphere and was assessed as successful, achieving the goal of connecting organizations to promote technology application in natural resource management and biodiversity protection. Representatives expressed a desire for CTNC and partner organizations to continue coordinating more workshops and specialized seminars on technologies being applied in conservation in the future.

The success of the workshop once again affirms the role of CTNC in professional networking, promoting technological innovation, and supporting conservation organizations in effectively applying modern tools to practice, aiming for the long-term goal of protecting biodiversity and wildlife species sustainably.
