5th National SMART Network Meeting Advances Sustainable Forest Management in Vietnam

On August 17, 2022, in Da Nang, the Vietnam Administration of Forestry, with the support of the GIZ organization, hosted the 5th SMART Network Meeting, covering key topics:
– Dissemination of Decision No. 197/QD-TCLN-DDPH dated July 4, 2022, issued by the Vietnam Administration of Forestry, outlining the procedure for utilizing the Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool (SMART) in specialized and protected forest areas;
– Update on the nationwide implementation of SMART;
– Sharing insights into data models updated by organizations based on job requirements, addressing difficulties and challenges; discussing the operational principles of the SMART network.
Nearly 100 delegates from various agencies and units attended the meeting, including the Special-Use Forest and Protective Forest Management Department, the General Administration Office, forest management boards actively implementing the SMART software, the Association of National Parks and Nature Reserves, and organizations such as GIZ, FFI – Vietnam, WWF – Vietnam, GreenViet, Save Vietnam’s Wildlife, among others.
The Vietnam Administration of Forestry is also currently supporting several national parks, nature reserves, and forest management boards in applying and deploying SMART. With the ongoing attention from governmental agencies, it is anticipated that SMART will see widespread implementation throughout Vietnam in the near future. /.
