Following the successful implementation of SMART Mobile training programs for all forest protection staff at the Management Boards of Deo Ca SuF, Tay Hoa PF, and Song Hinh PF (Dak Lak Province), the Center for Technology and Nature Conservation (CTNC) conducted an advanced SMART training course from 30/9 to 04/10 2025, at the Tay Hoa PFMB office for seven technical staff members from three forest management units.
Through the training, trainees are provided with knowledge and skills in:
– Customize the National SMART data model to align with the specific operational conditions of the unit.
– Effectively manage patrol data, query and extract SMART data into various formats such as CSV, SHP, GPX, XML to connect to popular GIS software in the forestry industry such as QGIS, Mapinfo.
– Design thematic reports to support forest protection management and biodiversity conservation efforts.
Besides, trainees are equipped with skills in building tactical maps, analyzing patrol data on SMART software, thereby effectively supporting the decision-making process and adaptive management planning at the unit.
Within the framework of the program, CTNC also handed over 05 smartphone devices to 05 Forest Protection Stations under the Tay Hoa PFMB to be ready for the application of SMART patrols on the entire forest area of the unit. The intensive SMART training course not only contributes to improving the capacity to apply technology in forest management but also promotes digital transformation in the field of nature conservation
After the training course, CTNC continues to accompany and closely coordinate with forest management boards to enhance the efficiency of management, protection and sustainable development of forest resources.
“SMART (Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool) – is open-source software developed by leading conservation organizations around the world. Currently, SMART is applied in more than 1,200 locations in more than 100 countries, making it the most widely applied technology solution for protected area management. The advantage of this tool is that it is standardized and accurate in collecting field data, storing and analyzing patrol results through data query and reporting, and it is easier for important information from the field to be transferred to managers, thereby strongly supporting the decision-making process and improving the efficiency of management protection area”.
